“The Mommyheads are invigorating and technically masterful, and play music that is neither all headtrip or all audible morphine, neither all pop or all jazzy stylings. They use harmony smartly, like an instrument to itself. Their songs are tight, snazzy pearls.
”This early ‘90s review in Indie File best captured the essence of the band most frequently described by music journalists as “perfect pop.” The Mommyheads blended articulate wit, compositionally brilliant arrangements, and killer chops, becoming what music journalists today describe as one of the greatest indie rock bands of the 90s.
The band achieved cult status in the 1990s, touring relentlessly, releasing five critically acclaimed albums, and influencing a generation of today’s alternative bands with their unique style of progressive, quirky, melodic, groovy pop. Disbanding in 1998 and reuniting in 2008 to tour Sweden, the band now consists of Adam Elk, Dan Fisherman, Mike Holt and Jason McNair. They continue to reward a loyal fan base in the US and abroad with shows and releases, including 2008’s outstanding You’re Not A Dream (Bladen County Records), and a remastered, bonus track laden reissue of Flying Suit on Dromedary Records. Finest Specimens, a retrospective of the band’s entire career – from their late 1980s debut Acorn through their entire discography, and beyond, was released on October 19th of last year. 2011 included a tour of Northern Europe supporting the Scandinavian release of their newest CD, Delicate Friction. The US release is scheduled for this October on Dromedary Records.
